Halifax, NS – June 16, 2016
The recent acquisition of Ascenta Health by global natural health leader Nature’s Way and its decision to make Halifax its’ Canadian Headquarters has been chosen as BioNova’s Good News Story of the Year for 2015/16. The announcement was made Thursday evening at a gathering to celebrate the life sciences industry’s successes over the past year.
“We, at Nature’s Way, are thrilled to be recognized as such a positive story in the region. We have spent a great deal of time over the past year building a team, strengthening our brands, and expanding our infrastructure to facilitate long term growth for our business in Canada,” said Steve Chiasson, Vice President and General Manager at Nature’s Way Canada. “I can’t imagine a more supportive environment to do this work than right here in Nova Scotia. It’s a great feeling going to work every day knowing there are so many people in the community who genuinely want to see you succeed.”
The availability of a talented workforce, world-class universities and Nova Scotia’s strong research support system was a deciding factor for Nature’s Way to plant firm roots in the province. The transition was also made easier as Ascenta’s existing team of highly educated and talented staff who had proved they were able to run and manage a successful production and knew the ins and outs of the business.
According to BioNova’s Managing Director, Scott Moffitt, Nature’s Way continued investment and commitment in the province speaks to the capability of the life sciences sector in Nova Scotia. “This acquisition validates what we believe – we have the ability to compete on a global scale and be home to high-value companies that are making a global impact. Attracting companies like Nature’s Way is something to be celebrated and embraced.”
Moffitt added that 2015-16 was marked by a number of other compelling stories for the life sciences community. “There were a number of important milestones reached in the past year including significant investments being raised, new products being launched, positive clinical trial results and recognition for the innovators and entrepreneurs in the region, with all of these moving the sector forward as one of the pillars needed for the new economy”.
The announcement of the Good News Story of the year was made at BioNova’s Good News and Blues networking reception. In addition to highlighting the achievements in the past year; the event featured bands made up of members of the life sciences community; Innovacorp’s Start Me Ups, The Replayables, made up of ACOA employees and the Rooster Man band.
